 lecture notes:

content, concept, form > production

1.74 billion websites

start with a question!!

what is the purpose??

rethink what a website can be - innovation

samples by the end of the week

nextimage.xyz

design + content need to go hand in hand

experiment

make the best of restrictions - what are my rules?

be ambitious

POMO stuidio - think of the type of emotion or reaction you want from the user and sculpt that

think of a child breaking their toys - forget what it’s supposed to be and build with what you have

TASK:

identify and list the properties and conventions of a website: layout, navigation, scroll

acknowledge the subject matter, whats its purpose? how could you add to/ tailor the conventions to improve the website?

Website: https://sketch.london/

- the landing page makes it immediately clear that this is an unusual restaurant
- the colourful floating 3D shapes can be dragged with the mouse - this engages the user right away
- upon further inspection, it becomes clear each orb represents a different room of the restaurant
- clicking on the orb takes the user to a page with more interactive elements, giving the user an insight of the restaurant rooms

- additional information an videos can be found in pop ups which hover over the interactive screens.
- when it comes to making a booking, the user is taken to a much more familiar interface - this is probably to give the user reassurance that the booking they are making is legitimate

- i viewed this website with my housemate, who isn't on our course and it immediately caught her attention
 - she took my laptop to interact with the elements on each page and asked if we could go to the restaurant (we can't, we're poor)
- overall, the website makes the restaurant a desirable place to visit as it is is fun, playful, unique and keeps and element of mystery around it
