Contemporary Album Design

Jason Vaz -

Vaz uses a lot of fluid lines to juxtapose with the geometric shapes in his work. This gives the work a liberated, experimental feeling. Vas's is clearly inspired by the music it is for and he has created visual representations of songs such as below:

PAN records -

"PAN releases high quality, thoughtfully-designed physical editions of recordings and visual media"
use of unsettling digitally manipulated photographs which make the viewer do a double take

Posh Isolation -

very modern minimalist, 'swiss posters' type of design

Nowadays, most people don't primarily listen to music on vinyl. Most people don't even own a turntable - streaming services are simply cheaper and more practical.

This means that owning a vinyl has become even more cherished - they are now collectible pieces

Different materials-

Dr. Me mentioned an album made from sandpaper, so that when you pull it in and out of your collection, it rubs away the artwork of the vinyls either side of it. It was release by a punk band in the 80s - destruction is often considered an aspect of punk culture.

Electronic musician Sophie recently released an LP which came in a textured silicon case:

SOPHIE - PRODUCT. CD. Bleep.

This reflects the modern, bouncy sounds which are found in her music.
